Web Site Maintenance is making sure that files and file directories are up and running properly at all times and that links are working correctly . It also includes checking to make sure images and pages load properly and to keep your web site high on search engine placement for search terms used. Maintenance can take as little as two to three hours a week or it may become a full-time job. This is where Web Design by Jack comes in, to lighten the burden on you so you don’t have to take time out from running your business to work on your web site.

When you start your new business, you need to keep up the appearance of your store so it always looks clean and appealing to your customers. Your web site needs that same care to be kept up to date and working correctly so your customers will want to come back to your web site. Web site designing is to design your web site so it is appealing to prospective customers and attracts them to purchase your products or services. SEO, which stands for search engine optimization, on the other hand is designing your web site to perform correctly for good placement in the search engines so customers can find your site. To explain this, when someone is looking for a product or service, he/she put’s a search term on Google, Yahoo, MSN or other search engine and a list of links show up in the results. On the top of the page and down the right side of the pager are links that someone paid an amount for each time someone clicks on that link. This is called pay-by-click and the more someone pays for the price of that search term, the better their placement will be on that page. You don’t even need optimization to get one of these positions, just money, and some pay into the thousands of dollars each month to be in these positions and most prospective customers only glance at these listings. When was the last time you clicked on one? In the body of this same page are “organic” listings, and are listed in order that best fits the search term used to find it. Each page lists 10 results for the search term used and most people will only look at the results on that first page and some will go to the second page, so your site needs to be listed on one of these first two pages to be of any value. This can and will become a full time job as there may be thousands of sites competing for these top twenty spots.
This is where I come in. There are numerous ways to improve your chances for good placement on search engines. Web pages use special coding to help guide search engines through your site and if this coding is not easily accessible or has errors, the search engines will rank your site poorly or skip your site completely. Along with this coding, you need text navigation, preferably on the bottom of each page and a site map page with text based links to all important pages on your site. Search engines look for a site map and will use it to navigate through your site. The more search engine friendly your site is, the better your chances for a good placement. You still need to also make the site human friendly so your prospective customers can understand what you are saying.
Other important factors for good placement by the search engines are proper key words or key phrases.  Years ago when there were not a lot of web sites on the internet, this was all you needed for good placement but today with millions of sites, there are many factors need to improve your placement. You need proper navigation that is easy to use to get around your site and links from all pages to other pages both on your site and other sites. These links must not be broken as this will count against you for good placement. Other things to help with good placement are proper page title, meta description, anchor texts, and image texts.
If you have the time to keep up with all of this and more, then you don’t need my maintenance services, but if you are like most business owners and need to spend your time running you business, then you do need me to monitor your web site on a daily basis to make sure that you get the best possible placement so your prospective customers will find you and purchase your products or services.
 

Above is a web site that I did not design. Customer was very happy with the design but said that you can not find it on the web. I checked it out and found out why it had no placement and agreed to help to get it optimized for a better placement on Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Below on the top is my report before I optimized this site and on the bottom is after I optimized it for better placement. As you can see with the before and after results, I can get you better placement. I won’t promise you first place in the search terms you want, but I will promise you I will do my very best to get you placed high on Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
